Finally I had time for setting up a AFP server in my network and...........everything worked fine for me

My setup is:

A machine running Ubuntu 14.10 with netatalk installed and afpd running.
A machine running MacOSX Yosemite, seeing in the network the afp server
My shared folders are mounted in /Volumes/Shared folder
I can contect my iPad to the Mac, browse any library on the Ubuntu machine, and read remotely

Am I missing something? Is everybody having this issue when AFP is used?

Sorry been really busy this week and haven't had time to update, what I have noticed is that everything works fine with a relatively small library, maybe a collection of comics, but once you expand that collection, everything falls apart. Initially I had just made the changes to smb on a test library I had created, and everything worked great. But as soon as I started importing my 100 gig library, not even a third of it really, things just stopped working again.

OSX wil go to sleep after a certain amount of time:

It depends a bit on the type of mac machine what actualy happens when osx goes to sleep, nas connections are probably closed. Some programs keep running in a background mode or idle state on server systems or whatever.

But yarc will definitely will get errors when osx goes to sleep, maybe even crash. It should detect this, and go into an idle mode or do something like a power assertion.

Hello from California!

i am also running into this problem. using latest app version and Mavericks. AFP server over gig network. WD My Book Live. Remote Access disabled. Twonky and iTunes media servers disabled.

although i hadn't rebooted or am aware of IP lease expiring - the NAS IP that showed up from the Library properties > Server Address did not match the actual NAS IP address.

i unchecked that option - enable the server. also ramped performance up to high.

after restarting the app - still only to update library in small increments.

maybe write speed to db is a bottleneck? i notice if i stop the update and go to the library directory structure sometimes a new folder is there but hasn't added comics to it.

mind you - i know squat about db or sqlite - i just did an export of comic info into Excel to see if i could understand where the db is located....

The current version of YACReader(and the first 8.0 beta) has a file descriptors leak, afecting Unix systems, I am not sure if this could be causing the problems.

Maximum number of open files per process:

- Linux: 1024
- Windows: 512
- Mac OS X: 256

The incremental continuation of the update process comes from the program releasing the files on exit, so that the next run can open the same number of files again. Since the new beta actually closes those files by itself, it shouldn't be a problem anymore.

My answers are not necessarily official YACReader statements but mostly represent my own opinion in technical matters.
